Evan Walker is a contemporary potter drawing influences from the abstract expressionist movement in California and Japanese ideas like Wabi Sabi and the Chinese Wu Wei. Born in 1995 in San Jose, his interest in clay began when he was 12 years old. His early work explores using thrown and altered forms to jump start a sculpture, while his contemporary forms strive to find balance between the union of form and function. He studied with professor David Kiddie, a student of Paul Soldner, where he learned the subtleties of shape, form, and the context of the space they inhabit as he searched for his unique style.
He is a recurring teacher at Firestick Studio in Ojai. He has always found great joy in spreading awareness of clay as a medium and is known for his eccentric teaching style aiming to break down conventional throwing norms.
